Arrival Trailer Reminds Us Language Is Messy, Especially When It Comes to Aliens

Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, and Jeremy Renner make first contact in the first trailer for Paramount Pictures’ Arrival.

Adams plays an expert linguist trying to understand aliens and I hope we have someone like her when we’re finally visited. This isn’t quite as warm and fuzzy as Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Arrival will be in theaters November 11, 2016.
