Greatest TV Vampire Ever?

It’s that time of year. Ghosts, ghouls and goblins are running amok. Mummies, werewolves and vampires are the talk of the town. Everyone is getting in on the Halloween action and the Paley Center is no exception. They’re posing the enormous question: Who is the greatest TV vampire of them all? Well, you know who’s got my vote.

Arthur Smith asks, “Suddenly, it seems, audiences want blood. Why now? Is it the parlous state of the world, economic anxieties, the end result of a morbidly sex-and-youth obsessed popular culture?” Well the easy answer is, vampires are awesome. But obviously it’s not just now, humans have had an obsession with vampires for centuries. Of course the Twilight madness raging heavily for the last year has helped fling them into the spotlight once again. Luckily for us this is a TV vampires only poll. Edward Cullen need not apply.

Here are your nominees:

Angel
Barnabas Collins
Bill Compton
The Count (ah! ah! ah!)
Count Chocula
Count Floyd
Eric Northman
Darla
Drusilla
Julian Luna
Kurt Barlow
Mick St. John
Janos Skorzeny
Spike
Damon Salvatore
Stefan Salvatore

You have until November 2 to vote. As of right now my beloved William the Bloody is holding strong in the top spot with 29.32%. Eric is a close second with 23.39%. They also say write-in votes are welcome and a lot of commenters have already noticed one glaring omission – Nick Knight from Forever Knight. I’d also add Mitchell from Being Human to the list but I’m still behind Spike all the way. Or in front of him. Or under him…

Whew. Thanks to glare on my laptop, I thought that guy in the picture was giving us the finger.

Ya know Eric, a dream movie of mine for some time now would be for Del Toro or Burton to cast Landau in a Bride Of Frankenstein remake.

    How cool would that be?

  3. The pixies in my head are telling me to vote for Drusilla. Anyone who does not will have no cakes today. Oh yes, they will not, my pet.

  4. Randy says:

That reminds me of a Family Guy where Peter asks Brian if there was ever an episode of Sesame Street where the Count did that.

Gotta give this one to Spike, but some of the others on this list are definitely worthy of runner-up recognition. Barnabas was cool in his day but the fact that he was on a soap only turned up the angst factor, and most vampires have an angst factor that's already kind of up there. Count Floyd is a work of immeasurable genius and genuine hilarity, but he's a TV anchorman playing a vampire (who inexplicably howls like a werewolf) on a cheap local TV movie showcase, so he's unfortunately out of the running. And, love him though I do, until I see Count Von Count actually tear out a virgin's throat as she's counting to ten, I can't cast my vote for him.

  6. Spike shot up even more since I posted this! He's now at 30.18% :)

    Angel(us).

I vote, Sesame Street, 'The Count'. :)

  9. Andy says:

It has to be Spike, because his life is full of even more pathos than Angelus'.

I WANT TO WRITE IN MY CANDIDATE! YOU MISSED THE BEST EVER….Nick Knight from FOREVER KNIGHT! He started that whole torn vampire thing looking for redemption

  11. Keely H. says:

    Definitely Spike! Great one-liners!

…is it too late to change my answer to Grandpa Monster???

He is at least, the second obvious choice. And a super cool dood IRL, from all that I've ever heard.

  13. Ritch says:
