In a Time of Ancient Gods, LEGO Xena: The Warrior Princess Rules!

A land in turmoil cried out for a hero and LEGO Xena: The Warrior Princess answered!

Xena herself, Lucy Lawless, tweeted this one out and I am head over heels for it. Her reaction was “OMG!!!” to be exact. The intro was created by Sebastian Dohnal who wrote, “As a kid I always loved Xena and lego…so why not combine those two things?”

Why not, indeed!

“I did this one-minute video almost four weeks, and according to my calculations, one second of animation took 2 hours and subsequent adjustments in After Effects,” he explains, “This great figure of Xena I had made for me in England.”

If you like what you see here, good news. Dohnal is working on a full LEGO episode based on “the first number Xena’s comic- Xena: Temple of the Dragon God.” [Editors’s Note: affiliate links] You can pick that one up on Amazon if you’ve never come across it before. You can also check out the newer comic series from Genevieve Valentine and Ariel Medel.

Dohnal also provided a side-by-side comparison version.

You may have already heard Javier Grillo-Marxuach is working on a Xena reboot for NBC. It’s still very early on so there aren’t too many details yet but all signs point to it featuring our new Xena and Gabrielle in a visible relationship. He wrote on Tumblr earlier this year:

There is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s. it will also express my view of the world – which is only further informed by what is happening right now – and is not too difficult to know what that is if you do some digging.

I am so excited for a new generation to have their own Warrior Princess to look up to.
