George Miller Gets Best Director Oscar Nomination, Definitely Willing to Make More Mad Max

FURY ROAD

I had a feeling this would happen. After reports earlier this week where George Miller declared he wouldn’t be making any more Mad Max films, he’s come out to say he was misquoted.

Just a few days ago I posted about Miller speaking to Page Six saying, “I won’t make more ‘Mad Max’ movies…Those ‘Mad Maxes’ take forever. I won’t do those anymore.”

I figured it wouldn’t be too long until someone asked him to clarify and The Wrap took on the task:

“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review,” he said. “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max’ movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.’ It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”

So we’re back where we started really. Whether it was really a misquote or a change of heart we’ll never know.

Mad Max: Fury Road has just received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Directing, Film Editing, Costume Design, Production Design, Visual Effects, Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and I hope it sweeps. Not just because I loved the film and think it deserves all the acclaim, but also because the nominations this year are very frustrating otherwise.

See? I knew not expecting anything would pay off!

…so now I’ll just keep on going forward with no expectations whatsoever. :)
