Looks Like Oprah Winfrey Is Joining Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time!
Oprah Winfrey. Yes. Oprah, has just been announced as being in talks for the cast of Ava DuVernay’s sci-fi adaptation A Wrinkle in Time.
Deadline reports:
Disney and Selma director Ava DuVernay are setting Oprah Winfrey to star in A Wrinkle In Time, an adaptation of the 1963 Newbery Medal-winning Madeleine L’Engle fantasy classic novel that has a script by Oscar-winning Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee. Winfrey will play the role of Mrs. Which. The studio is moving quickly to cast the film, with actors including Amy Adams and Kevin Hart chief among those circling. Winfrey is in final negotiations.
This is very exciting news and I’m looking forward to who else DuVernay casts. A few months ago, a casting call said the production was looking for a mixed race actor to play the lead role of young Meg (as well as Charles Wallace):
Mixed race (African American/Caucasian); troubled, belligerent, yet pretty, and intelligent; possesses an inner beauty that is clouded by the traumatic effect of the disappearance of her beloved scientist father when she was nine; now rebellious, she hates herself, believing that no one could love her with the exception of her mother and five-year-old brother; at 14, Meg only wants one thing in the world–to find her father; despite her flaws, we like Meg and we are rooting for her as she, her brother, and new friend Calvin take off on an intergalactic journey where Meg discovers her inner warrior and the powerful strength of pure love; lead role.
Mrs. Which is one of three “astral women” in the book and I’m curious to see who will be Winfrey’s counterparts. DuVernay tweeted out another outlet’s story of the news so it looks like this is probably a sure thing.
