Dark Tower Set Photos of Idris Elba Surface, Multiple Orgasms Reported

The adaptation of Steven King’s The Dark Tower has started filming and we’ve got set photos of Idris Elba to prove it.

Honestly, it doesn’t take a lot to get Idris Elba fans excited. Idris Elba smiled. Idris Elba drove a car. Idris Elba put on a bow tie. Women and men just can’t get enough of him so you can imagine how excited everyone got when set photos surfaced today of him in costume as Roland from The Dark Tower.

The cast also includes Matthew McConaughey as Elba’s foe The Man in Black, Fran Kranz as Pimli, Abbey Lee as Tirana, Claudia Kim as Arra Champignon, Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers. Vikings‘ Katheryn Winnick was added to the cast recently but her role remains a secret. She even posted a photo of her trailer on Instagram recently but it’s since been removed.

The Dark Tower, directed by Nikolaj Arcel, is currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa but signs point to it moving to New York City in June.

Hey Jill, I don’t know if this anything to do with the site, but when I posted this link elsewhere, and try to follow it, it gives me a 403 error.

    A black sheriff?!

  5. Who the Hell are any of those characters?

    • Aeryl says:

Pimli is Pimli Prentiss, he was the warden of Algul Siento. Sayre is a Low Man from Sombra Corporation. Tirana and Arra are new characters. And Jake Chambers is Ake!

I read Dark Tower long before it was a series, and was kinda meh about it. But Idris Elba, and now Katheryn Winnick too? OMG. I’m gonna watch the heck out of that movie.

I’ve never actually read the books, but I am going to be ALL OVER this. This is a good thing. Thank you, universe.

    • Aeryl says:

I honestly think the books might be a hindrance. From what I can tell they are going to be loosely adapted.

      They are very good though!

I’ve heard the Dark Tower series is good, but I never made it past the first book. It was so depressing and boring that I had no desire to continue, even though I think there’s supposed to be a main character in a wheelchair? But Idris Elba as a cowboy–*that* sounds like it could be worth watching.

    • Yeah I read the first book on my trip and was not enticed to buy the next one. But I’ve heard so many good things about it, perhaps it just had a really slow start?

The Gunslinger is quite a slog IMHO. The Drawing of the Three and The Wastelands are very good, though.

(I can’t comment on Wizard and Glass except to say that it’s my own personal literary Vietnam — I’ve been stuck on page 400 or so for at least a decade. Make of that what you will…)

          • I think he even apologized for the first book at some point? But I remember really liking 2-4, bits of 5…but most of 5 and 6 are a trial you have to suffer through to get to 7. Near the end of 7, when Roland crests that final hill…and whatever happens, happens…you will feel as tired as he does.

W&G is one of those books that either hooks you, or it doesn’t.

      • Aeryl says:

It definitely settles into something resembling traditional storytelling by the second one.

    • Aeryl says:

Yes, there is a character in a wheel chair. She suffers from mental illness as well. But she isn’t introduced until the 2nd book.

I have so many thoughts about The Dark Tower movie.

I like McConaughey as TMiB. Fran Kranz is gonna play the perfect mix of sympathetic and devious. I ❤️ Abbey Lee from Mad Max Fury Road but I don’t get what her character Tirana is all about; I don’t remember her from the books but Tirana is a minor character at best from what I ken, which contradicts what outlets are reporting.

I don’t know who Arra (Claudia Kim) is but I’m wondering now if I should go back to the Dark Horse comics and read those; I only read some of them, but not the ones that were mostly written by Robin Furth (which I think are still canon). I don’t remember Sayre much, if at all, and looking at his wiki entry, I’m starting to wonder how much of this book series I’ve forgotten entirely. Maybe I need to read it all again.

Tom Taylor looks good as Jake, I CAN’T WAIT to find out who Katheryn Winnick has been cast as because I ❤️ Lagertha. But I’m a little confused because I thought I read that they were going to start mid-series and avoid the origin stuff, yet there’s no IMDb entries for Eddie or Susannah (though I remember a rumor about Aaron Paul being cast as Eddie, which would be sick).

And of course, Idris is perfect. I can’t wait to hear him deliver iconic gunslinger lines.

    • Aeryl says:

Sayre was the guy who was there when Father Callahan did the thing that brought him to Roland’s world.
