Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke Joins the Han Solo Star Wars Spinoff

Whoa. That’s some news to drop on a Friday, Disney.

According to StarWars.com:

Emilia Clarke is heading to a galaxy far, far away — and she’s going to meet Han and Chewie.

StarWars.com is excited to announce that Clarke, known for her stirring portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.

She’ll be joining Alden Ehrenreich, who’s playing Han Solo, and Donald Glover who was recently cast as Lando Calrissian. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing this one and it’s set for a 2018 release.

There was previously a report that the female lead of the film could go to Zoë Kravitz, Tessa Thompson, and Naomi Scott. Clarke’s name wasn’t floated at that time so we don’t know if she’s the lead or if that space has yet to be filled. Also no word yet on who she’ll be playing at all but here’s hoping she’s not just a love interest for Han. Anyone from Star Wars canon you think it might be?

  1. Agreed. I don’t want her to be the love interest. I’d prefer Sana gets that honor! She could be a cohort, though, or an Imperial entanglement (Double entendre not intended, but noted all the same).
