Han Solo’s Female Lead Narrowed Down to a Wife, a Power Ranger, and a Goddess

The Han Solo solo film (I hate saying that) is getting closer to finding its female lead. There are some very familiar faces in the mix.

Previously I wasn’t thrilled with the short list for Han Solo himself but the role eventually went to none of those actors. Alden Ehrenreich took the coveted spot and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does with the role as I’ve only seen him in Beautiful Creatures. While I’ve heard rumblings of Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs being close to nabbing the Lando Calrissian role (at least before the internet put Donald Glover’s name out there) this latest news is about the female lead.

Variety reports Zoë Kravitz, Tessa Thompson, and Naomi Scott are on the short list for the big role we know nothing concrete about. The earlier rumor was that Disney and Lucasfilm were looking for someone non-white for this particular role. Here’s what Variety says:

With production not starting till early 2017, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have taken their time in meeting with talent for the mystery female character as well as the role of Lando Calrissian. This would mark the second round of tests; a previous round took place earlier this summer. While it seems like a decision is on the horizon, sources it could still be a couple weeks till one is made.

Scott is playing the Pink Ranger in the new Power Rangers film and also had a role in The Martian. Kravitz of course was recently seen as Toast the Knowing in Mad Max: Fury Road and Thompson will be in another Disney project soon playing Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok. I’d say Thompson has the edge here already being connected to Disney but you never know.

The as-yet-untitled film is set to hit theaters May 25, 2018.

I’m glad that they are looking for an actress of color, but I’m pretty sure she’s gonna die, so there’s that.
