Speak, Nerd, and Enter!

Your latest spot to talk about anything going on that I’m not already posting about on TheNerdyBird.com! What’s shakin’?

First thing’s first! I got a review copy of the new release of The Lion King!

Like almost all older Disney animated films that I haven’t watched in over ten years, it felt a lot shorter than I remembered. But it was really great to see again and it looks and sounds great in 7.1. The new blu-ray, out now, is part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection and features really neat old footage of the recording sessions as well as co-directors Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff and others showing off the process of making the film.

The story boards they show and scenes they mention that didn’t wind up making it into the final cut are really interesting. But my absolute favorite was the bloopers which are animated. They don’t have that one online but here’s a look at the recording of “Be Prepared.”

And the new release comes with limited edition film frames! Reproduced of course but still a super rad item to have.

Also sent to me this week by the lovely folks at Boom Studios…

I watched Logan’s Run for the first time. This clip is going to come in handy on the internet.

*ahem*

And finally, in case you missed it, I did some modeling for Jordan Dené. Me and the other wonderful geek ladies were shot by Savannah Lauren and the new scoop neck tees are now available in her shop.

@JillPantozzi:disqus@wheelchairninja:disqus I imagine that you already know about this, but just in case you don’t.

    • I’d been hearing drips and drabs of it but hadn’t dove into it head on yet. Ugh.

Thanks, I hadn’t heard that. I read the bill, and the details were intriguing. If there’s an architectural obstacle you’ve got to write the business owner a letter, and you can’t sue unless they do nothing for six months? It’s just weirdly specific. So I did a little digging, and I found a whole bunch of articles of business getting sued for what seems to amount, at least in the reports, to minor ADA technicalities. Check it out: https://youtu.be/1Xjq9xWnwT0 I can’t say who’s right in that situation since I don’t know every tiny detail of the ADA and obviously the story’s angle is pretty biased (it’s amazing the things you learn when you start working for a news organization ;) ) but I can say one thing—for me personally, the parking and ramp they show in that clip is practically perfect for what I need. I have more difficulty getting into the hospital for my weekly checkup.

  2. I’m digging those purple accents on the chair. Next time I change things up I really need to hire someone to do something fun and creative.

When I got my new one a few years back, people were slightly surprised that I, generally a person who likes wacky colors (My first ‘chair was pink. To be fair, I was four), went with a frame that looks plain white. It took my mother a month, my one friend maybe six months, and my father a year to realize—it’s actually glow in the dark. :D

Plus come Christmas time I can wrap red electrical tape around the tubing for a candy cane look, which is pretty sweet.

      • I love everything about what you just said. :)

          :D

You’re still using a mobility scooter, right? I don’t know how many color choices those have, but I could imagine a custom paint shop would be able to airbrush some sweet flames on the sides since scooters are vaguely motorcycle-shaped. Or you could find decals at an auto parts store if you enjoy your wallet not crying itself to sleep. ;)

          • I am, and it’s funny because this one came with 3 different color choices you could swap out. But the colorful parts aren’t that large/noticeable. I did at one time consider getting the pieces painted something brighter but they are also easily knocked off and didn’t think it would be worth the $$.

  3. Interesting things happening around the world: Egyptian producer Amr Salama wants us to see the American Sniper story from Mustafa’s pov!

This is the first time in a awhile that a war-related movie caught my interest. Nice!

Also, in the comment section, someone posted the trailer for Sheikh Jackson, and I’m super curious about it (it’s blocked here, I need to get home to see it)!

  4. Okay, so, you posted one of the pictures from this set a bit ago and some dude’s reaction to it was perfectly garbage and I reacted by saying #### that guy, you look great. And then I absolutely panicked because although I assumed it was from a photoshoot, I hadn’t done any research to confirm…so, now I’m thinking I might just be complimenting how you look v.s. a dude who is being critical of the message, which is its own kind of toxicity, so I deleted the message. And THEN I worried that deleting the message made it seem as if I was being flirty and then had decided AGAINST being flirty and, basically, I blame all of my psychological difficulties on the upward momentum of progressive thinking and I wish I could be Fred Flintstone and eat my way through a Brontosaurus Burger and then take a nap and not have to think about anything except crushing rocks with my over-sized head.

But also, now that it’s separated from that context, I feel better about saying you look great in the shoot. Absolutely tops, confident, and happy, and the shirt matches one of my many, many bumper stickers, so that’s nice. Way to sell it, would buy 10.

How are ya’ll doing while I have a heart attack for no reason over here?

P.S. Finally saw Logan’s Run last year. The clothes > everything else about the movie.
