Ocean’s Eight Gains Hobbit and Captain America Actor Richard Armitage

The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage is said to be joining the all-star cast of the Gary Ross-directed Ocean’s Eight.

Deadline reports the actor will join Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Dakota Fanning, Awkwafina, and James Corden in the new film. They don’t know who he’ll be playing though writing: “Details of his character are being kept under wraps.”

Armitage famously played Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s second Tolkien trilogy but he’s also part of the Marvel cinematic universe thanks to a small role in Captain America: The First Avenger. I first knew of him from British spy drama MI-5 but was more recently freaked out by his time as Francis Dolarhyde on NBC’s Hannibal.

Ross, who directed The Hunger Games, co-wrote the script with Olivia Milch for this Ocean’s Trilogy spin-off which is also said to feature several cameos. Even though we’ve seen tons of excellent shots from filming, Ocean’s Eight isn’t being released until June 8, 2018
