Batman/Birdman Michael Keaton in Talks for Spider-Man: Homecoming Villain

That was a mouthful of Man. Yes, I said that on purpose.

The Hollywood Reporter says none other than Michael Keaton is in talks for Marvel Entertainment’s Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland in the title role.

Sony/Marvel’s initial overtures to Keaton didn’t get past the offer stage, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter. The companies then moved on to other actors before circling back to Keaton, the actor who once played Bruce Wayne/Batman and then poked fun of his own image as an actor living in the shadow of a superhero role with his Oscar-nominated turn in Birdman.

The film already has Marisa Tomei signed on as Aunt May, Disney star Zendaya in another lead role, and The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Tony Revolori. Robert Downey Jr. is also expected to at least cameo as Iron Man. THR says “[Sony’s] Amy Pascal and Marvel’s Kevin Feige are producing the project, which is heading toward a June start with Jon Watts in the director’s chair.”

No word on which villain Keaton would play. Any thoughts?

Interesting, I liked what he was trying to do in the Robocop remake. It’s just a pity the script so utterly failed him (and everyone else) in that regard.

  2. Please let him don the fishbowl of Mysterio!

As long as his name’s anything other than Osborn, I’ll be happy.

      It would be so perfect.

I’ve always compared Batman and Green Goblin in my mind for some reason. Maybe it’s a similar motif? I hope he plays Norman Osborn.
