Last night The CW aired DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League, a special cataloguing their upcoming films. It just so happened to give us our first look at Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman solo film.
“She comes from Greek mythology, she was born on this island of Amazons called Themyscira,” explained Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns on the special. “These Amazons were once created to protect man’s world but they’ve since abandoned it. And Diana is asking constantly ‘Why don’t we do what we were created to do and protect man.’ And they say, ‘Because they’re not worth it.’ And this takes her on a journey into our world.”
He went on to say, “She’s the best fighter in the DC Universe. She has strength and speed and she’s been training her whole life for war.”
Gadot was also featured in the special explaining the premise of the film which takes place during World War I, “We’re going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what’s her mission?” Wonder Woman also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor who said, “Telling a story like this now is pivotal and important. The story of a very powerful woman.
Host of the special, Kevin Smith, called her a “feminist cultural icon,” and Johns added, “She stands for equality and that’s really important. I think that’s why people love the character.”
A lot of good stuff here but perhaps the best thing said about the character the whole night came from the film’s director, Patty Jenkins. “The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is, yet none of that negates any of her power.”
They also spent part of the special introducing audiences to the other members of the Justice League and Johns went on to confirm the Green Lantern Corps would also play a role in the team film, “We’ve been to the bottom of the ocean. We’ve been to ancient Greek mythology, we’ve been to the past and future with the Flash, we’ve been to the digital world with Cyborg. We still got to go to space. So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps are coming to join the Justice League universe.”

This could really be the first truly good super-heroine film. Patty Jenkins is perfect for the job.
Fingers crossed!
