Good News, Everyone! Daniel Wu Joins Alicia Vikander in Tomb Raider
Alicia Vikander is starring as the new Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot and we’ve just found out Into the Badlands actor Daniel Wu will join her!
Ex Machina and Jason Bourne actor Vikander joined the project last year. It’s not a chronological follow-up to Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider franchise but will see the character in her younger days on her first real adventure (much like the 2013 video game).
The Hollywood Reporter says Wu ” will play Lu Ren, a ship captain who teams with Croft on a quest to find her father. They will face off against the reboot’s villain, played by Walton Goggins.” AMC’s Into the Badlands sadly didn’t grab my attention after a few episodes but I did like Wu. He has a huge resume so I’m glad he’s playing such a large role here in what’s likely to be a highly-promoted film. Seeing Asian actors in leading roles is something that’s been severely lacking in Hollywood.
I don’t believe I wrote on the reboot previously but I’m not sold on Vikander’s action status as of yet. Jason Bourne bored me, and I haven’t seen The Man From U.N.C.L.E., but I’ve liked her in other films. Norway’s Roar Uthaug is directing with a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (she’s currently working with Warner Bros. on Sherlock Holmes 3 and Gotham City Sirens).
Tomb Raider is set for a March 16, 2018 release. What are your thoughts on the latest news?
