Help Support “The Nerdy Bird” Through Patreon & More

I’M BAAAAAAACK!

OK, I never actually left.

As you may or may not be aware, I’m venturing out on my own again after several years at The Mary Sue. I’m very excited/nervous about this. TheNerdyBird.com is my job now. The site is freshly redesigned by the ever-awesome 801red and I’ve been working on filling it with content for over a month. It’s a place for me to continue my entertainment journalism work as well as bring you all the fun pop culture stuff you love. And I’m my own boss again, so that’s pretty cool.

Speaking of which, the site is currently me, myself, and I. And I could use some support! “How can I help,” you ask? Well, I’m happy to let you know!

Crowdfunding is a big thing these days, and while I don’t have a specific goal in mind for something like a Kickstarter, I have been seeing lots of my creative pals using Patreon. It’s a service which allows artists, writers, etc. to fund their endeavors by fan (or patrons) support. Here’s a brief video explanation from Patreon.

And here… is my Patreon page! Give it a read, see what you think. I’m still working on putting together a fancy video (the site launch and NYCC prep got in the way) but for now give it a read and see what you think. As always, content on TheNerdyBird.com will remain free, that’s not going to change. Supporting someone on Patreon is a choice and something that can give your favorite people the helping hand they need to keep creating the content you enjoy.

I will be evolving the Patreon page (as well as content on TNB) as we go along and I see what’s working, what’s not, what you all are digging and what you’re not. But right now, this is the best way to support me (unless you know someone who wants to just hand me a salary for the next few years, ha ha ha!) and my content both on TheNerdyBird.com and my social media pages. I would be super, super grateful for any support you could give! If you have any questions, feel free to email me, I’m learning about this as I go along.

An alternate way to support the site and myself would be to use my affiliate links. If you’re not familiar, affiliate marketing is when individuals or organizations sign up with a particular merchant and use specific links to promote items or services. You may remember I had Amazon, Entertainment Earth, and a few t-shirt sites on my old site and sometimes shared stuff on social media like this. When a user clicks on a link, nothing really happens, but if the user then purchases something from said link in a period of time predetermined by the merchant, then the affiliate (that’s me!) will get a small percentage of the transaction.

For instance, right now on Entertainment Earth Funko Pop! Vinyls, Pocket Pop!s, Legacy Action Figures, and ReAction Figures are buy 3, get the 4th free. [Editor’s Note: affiliate link] You can check out what they have to offer here! I can also fill you in on other deals I find that I think would be relavent to you. [Editor’s Note: affiliate link] Right now Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] is $88.99 on Amazon!

I’m not planning on running regular ads or campaigns on the new TheNerdyBird.com but I will be tossing out affiliate links (and marking them as such like I just did above) when there’s an occasion to. Again, not something you have to do but if you’re already thinking of purchasing items from either Amazon.com or Entertainment Earth (especially during the holidays), please consider using my affiliate links as another small way to help support me.

Drop some feedback in the comments and let me know what you think of the new site!! I’ve been so excited to share it with all of you.

And now I leave you with this tremendous GIF my friend Rebecca Pahle made for me.
