I hope it doesn’t ‘suck.’

Vampires! Vampires! Vampires! The world can’t seem to get enough. Especially hot vampires like the kind you’d find on HBO’s True Blood. There’s almost nothing better than watching Bill and Eric do, well, just about anything and IDW Publishing is hoping that obsession will extend to their new comic book series.

The six-issue, officially licensed True Blood comic book will premiere at San Diego Comic-Con this July in print and digital formats. “The plot was developed with [series creator Alan] Ball, along with series writers Elisabeth Finch and Kate Barnow, and co-written by David Tischman and Mariah Huehner,” says IDW. Artist David Messina will handle the series with J. Scott Campbell providing the covers.

The series will follow the ongoing adventures of Sookie Stackhouse, Bill Compton and the rest of the crazies in Bon Temp, Louisiana. In the first storyline, the characters are waiting out a particularly violent storm in Merlotte’s bar. “Soon, they discover they’ve been trapped by an entity that feeds off of raw emotions and begins killing off the patrons one by one until his hunger is sated,” says IDW.
“These graphic novels are a great companion to the series and we are pleased that the popularity of the show is allowing it to branch out into different mediums,” said Ball. Earlier this year it was announced Charlaine Harris, author of The Southern Vampire Mysteries the books the HBO show is based on, would be adapting her Harper Connelly series into comic books with Dynamite Entertainment.
IDW puts out an excellent Doctor Who comic that is an extension of the BBC series so I have high hopes they’ll put out something equally as pleasing for fans of True Blood. I’m already an expert, but are swarms of True Blood devotees prepared for being attracted to a comic book character?
