How would you like to play a video game where you’re a facially deformed monster who preys on young, beautiful women? You also play the organ and sing opera. Wait. What?

Never thought you’d live to see the day The Phantom of the Opera became a video game? According to Variety, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group is in talks with publishers to do just that. Sorta.
RUG hopes to bring Webber’s music properties to the gaming world but it’s not clear in what form. It could be simple as Webber wanting to cash in on the popularity of music games like Guitar Hero or Lips. It would certainly open up the genre to a whole new crowd that’s for sure.
But what if they are aiming for something more imaginative? Don’t forget, Webber was the composer of Cats and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, just to name a few. “Cats!: Claws of Fury” and “Joseph and the Atomic Transfiguring Dreamcoat” have a nice ring to it don’t they? Ok, maybe not.

Do you know what’s in, The Cabin in the Woods? Oh good. Neither do I. But I’m really keen on finding out!
Writing buddies Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard are teaming up for this mysterious new horror film and the first actors to star have just been announced. The Hollywood Reporter says Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford will most likely play “white-collared workers with a mysterious connection to the cabin.” Whedon will be producing, Goddard directing and both writing the script.
The film already has a release date of February 5, 2010 and is supposed to provide a new twist on a classic scenario. Regarding the actors chosen, Goddard joked with THR, “It’s really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.” Whedon thinks the casting is a look into the type of film they plan to make, “They’re the first proof that though ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ is a classic horror film, it isn’t one you’ve seen before.”
I love both actors and writers but I’m getting a horrible flashback to Surviving the Game so I’m gonna wait for more details.

What better way to round out this edition of Nerdy News than some super cool “adult” toys?
In honor of J.J. Abrams new Star Trek, Mattel plans to release a set of Barbies modeled after Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana’s characters. The dolls will hit stores in April, just before the May 8th release of the film. Each will retail around $49.95.
Collectors probably already know, Mattel has boldly gone here before. Back in 1996 a gift set was created to celebrate 30 years of the classic series using Barbie and Ken instead of actual actors.
Personally, I think they all look adorable and the costumes look really good. I can’t wait to see “Spock” used as “Sylar” in future Youtube parodies.
