Ok, the redhead is pissed.

Birds of Prey, Robin and Nightwing are all canceled. Don’t you know you’re not supposed to mess with a redhead?

“I’m WHAT?!”

DC confirmed the news to Newsarama. Birds of Prey #127, Robin #183 and Nightwing #153 will be their final issues in stores this February. It’s doubtful this decision was based on sales and more likely it has something to do with Batman. Fishy (pun intended) considering Catwoman got the ax not too long ago also. Maybe we’re all really underestimating the effect Batman R.I.P. will have on him and the Bat-family. Either way it seems hard to imagine a reboot of all three series.

Cancellation doesn’t fly with Zinda.

Robin and Nightwing writers Fabian Nicieza and Peter Tomasi told Comic Book Resources they were aware of these plans far in advance. Tomasi also revealed he’ll be writing a Batman and the Outsiders Special in January and continuing with Outsiders after his last issue of Nightwing.

I’m trying not to be too mad about Birds of Prey as it really does seem something new will come for each of the books after all is said and done but, yeah, I’m pissed. DC just better realize if they don’t bring BoP back, they’ll have THIS redhead in a wheelchair to deal with.

  1. Yeah John who knows? I’m hoping for hiatus rather than full-blown cancellation.

Oh my god Beth, you’d LOVE BoP!

I just don’t get why they couldn’t continue the titles while the whole Battle for the Cowl goes on. It’s not like they haven’t let titles continue while something larger was going on.

It’s a marketing stunt designed to tie-in with DC’s plans with the two main Bat-books. Seeing as how they are doing a story titled ‘Battle for the Cowl’ (or something similar to that), obviously Nightwing and Robin would be heavily involved.

I guess it would probably be more accurate to say their books are going on hiatus. But then, that is the same kind of difference as passing away and dying.

So, we’re kinda right back where we started.

  3. I will admit that I haven’t been reading any of these titles for some time now due to monetary considerations but I am saddened by their cancellation. Five years ago I collected these books religiously even after Dixon left them, so I will feel their loss because they were among my favorites. I don’t know why they’re doing it, but my take on DC lately has been that they want to turn the clock back to 1984 or so and this is part of the Batman end of that.

Or not. I could be completely wrong. I have been in the past.

I bet that Dick will become Batman for awhile. Tim will be more prominant in the Batman books as well as Teen Titans. Then later in the year they’ll relaunch Robin and Nightwing. not sure about Birds of prey though.

Robin was the best of the three imo but Nightwing all right too. I never read BoP. I was surprised to hear that all 3 of them are going at once. Personally I don't think the Batman & Outsiders is particularly good but that's the one they're keeping. Go figure.

I read this somewhere else yesterday and it pissed me off too. There is way too much of a fan following for them to be cancelling all 3 titles. Maybe they’ll pull somehting out of their hat. Possibly a short hiatus and then relaunched?
