Pottermore Reinstates Hogwarts Sorting Ceremony, Has the Magic Returned?

You may recall my emotional attachment to Pottermore, the J.K. Rowling-written Harry Potter website. Well the relaunched site has finally reinstated the Hogwarts sorting ceremony. Good news, right?

Ehhhh. I saw some fellow Potter Pals discussing the sorting this morning on Twitter and got very excited. When Pottermore got it’s blog-like overhaul, they promised it would return “in a different way” so I wasn’t sure quite what to expect when I navigated to the site. First, a friend told me you couldn’t log in with your old username and password but when you create a new login you’re greeted with this:

Yes, you could reclaim your old house and wand or attempt to be sorted again. CONUNDRUM. No seriously. I had a nerd crisis over this, especially when I finally chose to reclaim my old house and was greeted with yet another message:

Note the wording there – FOREVER. Eek! I mean, sure, I was happy with my House but should I sort myself again just to make sure?? No, I would stay true.

Awesome! I breathed a sigh of relief, downloaded some pretty backgrounds, noted the welcome note and information about my house and wand and then… oh, that’s it? Yes, unfortunately the reinstatement of sorting did not mean a return to the magic that was the previous version of Pottermore. You can read a ton but there’s no potions class or interactive art which was really what made it stand out. Pottermore is still a wonderfully designed and updated site but there’s nothing to keep me visiting on a regular basis besides “news.”

But! If you missed getting officially sorted previously this might be good news for you. I’m sure the Sorting Hat will be happy to see you. Let me know how it goes!

I feel that I’m Hufflepuff. I’ve never taken the tests because I’m afraid I would get sorted to another house, but I feel very certain that I’m Hufflepuff. ( ._.)

Took the tests again for the fun of it and was happy to see I’m still a Ravenclaw at heart. Still not wild about my wand core though. I got a unicorn hair core both times which is fine but… given the lore text I really don’t think it suits me.

I was so happy when I saw this was back! (Which I saw because you tweeted, so thanks!) I’d gotten Slytherin last time, which really bothered me. Not because it’s Slytherin, but because it didn’t make any sense for me, personality-wise. But now I’m a very happy Hufflepuff. :-D I’m also the proud owner of a phoenix feather core wand with a “Quite Bendy flexibility.”
