Showtime’s Twin Peaks Welcomes Back Sherilyn Fenn, Casts Laura Dern as Diane?

The Twin Peaks revival series on Showtime might have just added two to the cast – a returning Sherilyn Fenn and Laura Dern as a possible Diane.

Diane, 11:30 AM, February 24th. Entering the town of Twin Peaks. It’s 5 miles south of the Canadian border, 12 miles west of the state line. Never seen so many trees in my life.

With those words Special Agent Dale Cooper introduced us to Diane, the eponymous Twin Peaks character we’d never put a face to. Until now? TV Line says Dern is joining the cast.

Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that Twin Peaks co-creator David Lynch has tapped his longtime muse, Laura Dern, to join the forthcoming Showtime revival in a pivotal role.

Details about Dern’s character are being kept under the tightest of wraps, but one tantalizing theory has the Oscar-nominated actress playing Agent Cooper’s never-before-seen secretary Diane.

Dern has worked with Lynch previously on Blue Velvet (also starring Kyle MacLachlan), Wild at Heart, and Inland Empire. I really hope this turns out to be true.

Although Showtime has only officially confirmed Agent Cooper himself for the series I thought the cast had been settled for some time now. But Deadline reports Fenn is just now set to reprise her role as Audrey Horne for the Showtime series.

No one is commenting but I hear Sherilyn Fenn, who played Audrey, has signed on to reprise the role that’s expected to have a major presence in the new installment. It came down to the wire with Fenn as Twin Peaks has been filming for awhile. Probably complicating things was the fact that Fenn has been filming a heavily recurring role on the new season of Showtime’s Shameless. She has a longstanding relationship with Showtime, having also done a major arc on Ray Donovan.

We’ve already gotten one bizarre teaser for the new show but it’s going to be a while until we have anything more substantial to look at I’m sure. If you’re a Twin Peaks fan, check out my newbie recaps. I catalogued my experience watching the show for the first time last year.

I have always believed that Diane is the name of the tape recorder.

  2. I really hope she’s got a better gig now. It’s been what, 25 years?
