Hey I know this isn’t usually the place for this, but to all the LGTBQ+ people who frequent this site: I just want you to know today of all days that you are valued here.

Here’s the first trailer for Moana.

Not much to go on, but I’m kind of getting a vague Discworld Small Gods vibe…

Saw CONJURING 2 last night with my wife. The Warrens in real life may have been total hoax-fiends but on-screen, Ed & Diane are quickly becoming the Nick & Nora of horror. Their relationship is the key to the movies working, and James Wan puts tiny moments of warmth between them throughout the movies. Neither movie would be even a quarter as good as they are without it.

Also, the new Voltron show popped onto Netflix this weekend and…it’s a mixed bag. I miss the old theme song the most (so much so that I made it my ringtone).

  4. Nuuni Nuunani says:

So who seems likely for the role of Captain Marvel?

    • WheelchairNinja says:

I still want to see Eddie Izzard play a live-action version of Ursula someday. He’d be so freaking perfect!

    • SpottedSeaJelly says:

Wish they had come up with a more interesting name than “Uma” for that character though. Though, most of the names in Descendants are pretty meh

  5. How have Marvel & DC been lately about reprinting their HC OGNs as SCs?

  6. Alan Izar says:

    Penny Dreadful?

    • That Which Dreams says:

      What about it?

      • Alan Izar says:

Should’ve been more specific – Does anyone want to discuss the new episode of Penny Dreadful? It came out last Sunday.

        • That Which Dreams says:

Okay. I was really hoping that Vanessa and John Claire would meet up again in that episode.

          • Alan Izar says:

I don’t think they will any time soon. Claire’s story is so divorced from what Vanessa is going through, we won’t see them together unless she specifically seeks him out (to try and remember more from her encounter with the brothers, maybe).

          *slaps my head*

I keep forgetting about this thread. So yeah, much improved from the last episode (for me). And the whole gang got to star in this one!

Poor Johnny C., but what did he expect? His son’s not blind.

Justine does not know her place and it’s ticking Dorian off. Couple that with his alliance alongside Victor and it makes Mr. Grey much more interesting. Now to add some layers for Jekyll…

Lily really rocked, creating her own killer movement and generating sympathy from her tragic former life.

Bye bye Wild West? Malcolm came to his own in defending Ethan, his new son. The best families are makeshift ones.

I’m devastated to see Lyle go, but Caitriona makes for a wily replacement and friend to Vanessa. No dresses for her, I see?

Was getting a couple things at Trader Joe’s and saw they have TONS of new mango products (like mango cereal, mango cookies, mango pudding, etc). I love mangos, but I think I have a mild allergy to them (last couple times I ate fresh mango it made the roof of my mouth and my throat slightly itchy), so I avoided buying any of those…which makes me sad.

But, I did at least buy two bags of the Giant Peruvian Inca Corn which is delicious and salty.

    • That’s certainly an interesting way to handle an actor’s unavailability. Hopefully whoever this is has short hair and a better costume.

I hope the previously mentioned role of a ‘black, paramilitary woman from the 40’s’ is a different role than this, because I really want that to be a racebent Lady Blackhawk.

  8. I’m playing Animal Crossing Wild World on a DS emulator on my cell phone, and man, it just makes me happy. My town has a river that splits halfway down, so I have a little river delta, and I turned it into an orange grove. Plus I have Savannah, who is the best neighbor.

Here’s a video of a stuntwoman from Supergirl running the American Ninja (where’s Michael Dudikoff?) in a Wonder Woman outfit.

I’ve been rewatching the Harry Potter movies for the first time since visiting the Wizarding World parks in Florida last year. I keep recognizing stuff and noticing when tiny details are different. “Hey look, there are Fizzing Whizbys on the trolley! The glass on the doors was frosted in the compartment we were in.” It just makes me want to go back to Orlando even more!

    • I WANT TO GO BACK

      • WheelchairNinja says:

My sister and I went dressed in house robes–her Slytherin, I Ravenclaw–and the cast members were so great! They kept talking to us in character, calling us “students” and arguing the merits of our respective houses. You can tell they’re all massive Potter nerds! I’m already planning a new costume for whenever I go back, since I thought it’d be cool to roam the streets of Diagon Alley as an adult witch instead of pretending I’m still seventeen.

      • WheelchairNinja says:

Hey that reminds me, how was Hobbiton? Is it doable in a chair or did you have to cheat and use your whole “stand up and walk a few steps” superpower?

        • Ugh, I really need to get on my extensive Australia/NZ post. I’m going to do a whole section on accessibility stuff but long story short, I could have used my chair but it’s all hard dirt and gravel and lots of hills. Our tour guide was able to take us around on a golf cart instead.

          • WheelchairNinja says:

OK, so it’s about the same as the typical Renaissance faire then. That’s not so bad! Plus my usual faire garb is a hobbit costume anyway, so I’d fit right in! ;)

    • SpottedSeaJelly says:

Next time I go to visit my mom down in Florida I really should try going to Universal. Orlando is like a 2 hour drive from my mom’s place, so it’s reasonable for a day trip.

      • WheelchairNinja says:

The ticket to go between both parks is so worth it. It lets you take the Hogwarts Express from King’s Cross to Hogsmead and back again. You can have breakfast at The Leaky Cauldron, get ice cream at Florean Fortescue’s to beat the midday heat, a cauldron cake at Honeydukes as an afternoon snack, and dinner at The Three Broomsticks–not to mention a pint from The Hog’s Head! ;) And being in costume makes it even more awesome, like wearing garb to a renaissance fair instead of street clothes.

Anybody else want Mister Mxyzptlk to be the next season of Supergirl and to be portrayed be John de Lancie?

DCU Rebirth and Civil War II spoilers

    Thoughts?

DCU Rebirth – I finally read that huge intro issue with Wally West coming back. It actually wasn’t as bonkers as I thought it was gonna be, and I’m looking forward to several titles. Green Lanterns, Wonder Woman, and Superwoman for sure. Curious to try out Detective Comics due to Cassandra and Kate’s involvement. Also curious about Titans and Teen Titans!

CWII – Still forming an opinion. If Shulkie is dead I’ll just… give up on the event. I’m thankful they aren’t making Carol a crazy nazi right off the bat, but the precariousness of her “side” makes me worry. She could go full Hitler if Bendis is really that dumb of a writer. Tony ALREADY seems childish and unreasonable (and seemingly forgot the otherworldly apocalypse they’d saved the world from hours before)… And I’d rather he be the crazy one, even if his side seems like the default “good” one.

I actually think the precog thing could be extremely useful for things like preventing cosmic-scale disasters or large-scale deaths (bombings, shootings, natural disasters, etc). But it’s obvious that the power could be heavily abused and used to profile/target people too.

    • I’ve got Blue Beetle, Birds of Prey, Batgirl, and Nightwing in my pull list already, but after that first issue for Green Arrow, I might have to add it as well. I’ll be keeping an eye on all the others as they come out and may have to update. Most of the new costumes look great, and some of these creative teams really have me excited, though I’m going to miss some of the talent from the DC You, and why do we not have a Gail Simone title?!

    • Evelyn Starshine says:

Like there is no way we get from what happened in FCBD and CW2 #1 to a civil war
      like its completely silly

Tony is the only one that can be crazy
and she just did what ANYONE would do and he freaked out and stormed off with a threat

But like, in #0 they have her being head shrinked cos she’s going off the deep end.
      And Bendis loves Tony.

Also, Tony literally did the exact stuff he’s saying he would never do in Civil War 1 and in the Illuminati and dozens of other times

      also, a MISSILE !!!!

  13. That Which Dreams says:

So John Boyega is going to play Idris Elba’s son in Pacific Rim 2. Please let him replace Charlie Hunnam.

    • Marie says:

I am looking forward to more apocalypse cancelling.

    • Howard_Bannister says:

…but if you do this then we don’t get a scene where Charlie grabs John’s shoulder and spins him around as he’s trying to leave the room and gets the dignified glare of disappointment… you know you want that scene.
