Where Are The Action Chicks?

As if this week didn’t hold enough great news, prepare yourselves, I’ve got some more. Yours truly will be on a panel at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego!

I KNOW, RIGHT?! Surreal is what it is. The panel is called “Where Are the Action Chicks?” and will focus on the fact that comics and films have not produced more successful superheroines and other action-oriented women despite the popularity of characters like Buffy, Lara Croft, Ripley, etc.

Wanna know what else is cool? My co-panelists! Katrina Hill, the Action Flick Chick and G4’s Next Woman of the Web, and Adrianne Curry, the first winner of America’s Next Top Model and major Star Wars fanatic, will be joining me on stage. There may even be more names yet to come. The panel is part of the Comics Art Conference taking place during the con. They’ve done some unique panels in the past, like the psychology of the Joker, so I can’t wait to see where our discussion leads us.
There is also potentially some huge news for one dear reader of “Has Boobs, Reads Comics” to go along with this but I can’t make that announcement just yet. STAY TUNED. Oh and by the way, we don’t have a set day or time for the panel, it’s too far off for that, but let’s just hope it doesn’t coincide with any DC panels or god forbid, the Twilight panel. Just kidding. Sorta.

I can tell you why there aren't more action chicks! It's because they scare the crap out of us guys! We're very sensitive…

    All jokes aside, though, congratulations!

There are not enough characters like Ripley! Just thought I'd add that.

WOW! Major congrats! That will be some experiance. Since it's for Action chicks maybe you should go on stage in your Red Lantern gear! :)

I am trying to go to San Diego but don't know if it's going to happen. If it does I will be in the crowd. I don't suppose this panel will be streamed on the net if I can't make it? If so let us know.

I just think there needs to be better scripts. Angelina Jolie has had some success in Wanted and the Tomb Raider films. The first Charlies Angels movie proved that people would go see an action movie with female protagonists.

The failure of Elektra and Catwoman and others doesn't mean that "action chicks" can't succeed in Hollywood.

Congratulations on the panel and the MTV gig.

I would love to attend that.

I just wrote a pitch on my blog for a Punisher reboot from a female perspective. http://ashleylynch.com/?p=125

That is awesome. I think my editorial minion internship requires me to watch @actionchick do a panel.

    See you there :)
