Nerdy News

Movie news takes over this edition of Nerdy News…

E! Online reported last week that a third Batman film is “alive and kicking” and that Christopher Nolan will indeed return to direct with Christian Bale to star. This is of course from “Warner sources” and “production moles” so take it with a grain of salt for now.

However, the more intriguing rumor to come from E! is Rachel Weisz being considered for the role of Catwoman. This, again, according to “insiders” seeing as how another film hasn’t officially been announced yet. In fact, they admit her publicist had no idea she was in the running.
They also insist Bruce Wayne will be “sexier” this next time around. While in my opinion Bale is sexy no matter what, with fellow Brit Weisz standing next to him it’ll be a piece of cake. So, what do we think?

Out of the rumor mill and into fact, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett have been announced as the first actresses to be staring in the Tron sequel, Tron 2.0.
The two starred together in the horror flick Turistas back in 2006 but you probably know Wilde from her recent stint on House M.D. as “Thirteen” and Garrett from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
The Hollywood Reporter says Wilde be playing a worker in the virtual world who helps fight Master Control Program while Garrett is said to be playing a Siren in that world. Disney is currently screen-testing actors for the male lead but IMDB has Jeff Bridges listed as reclaiming his original role of Kevin Flynn.
Director Joseph Kosinski famously screened test footage at this years San Diego Comic Con.

In what will go down in history as one of the strangest ripped-from-the-headlines script ideas, Variety announced Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski will be shooting a film based on the 2007 Wall Street Journal article about online role-playing addicts.
Journalist Alexandra Alter wrote the original article depicting a 53-year-old married man who spends 20 hours a day on the computer engrossed in the fictional world of his avatar on Second Life. Eastern Promises writer Steven Knight will pen the script.
Verbinski really seems to be carving himself a niche in the industry. It was announced earlier this year he’d be adapting the highly-successful video game Bioshock to film. Now the question is, will there be a movie inside Second Life parodying the movie about Second Life?

  4. Sorry! Thanks for the comment and the link. Love your blog!

  5. Damn it all to hell. Someone else found the original picture I had thought of. So you know what I meant:

  6. I think Rachel would actually make a good catwoman. And I also think Christian bale is ALWAYS sexy…he doesn’t even have to try! I’m holding out for who nolan is actually going to cast.

  7. Haha, thanks nilskidoo!

GB, you’d have to cut out Penguin and Riddler then. It’s slim pickings.

LordShazam, I actually wanted to use another shot I found of her in a skin tight latex looking body suit but it had some websites url all over it. Glad you like this one though, I searched a long time for a good one.

If you havent seen the teaser for TR2N, you can youtube it. It’s not very high quality as someone spycammed it from last years SDCC. That said, the casting director for the Tron sequel should be applauded for putting Olivia Wilde in the film. She’s stunning and smart, and Jeff Bridges (who is returning) could use someone with that kind of personality in his life.

  9. LordShazam says:

That is the BEST picture I think I’ve ever seen of Rachel Weisz!

I thank that actress from FF2 played the Captain Frankie Raye character who, BTW, was completely uninteresting. I kept waiting for her to be tapped as a new herald and go toe-to-toe with the Surfer.

If we follow what nilskidoo is saying — which why not — that the next villain will A) be somebody from early in Batman’s career, who B) isn’t Catwoman, and of course C) can’t be Scarecrow or Ra’s Al Ghul or Joker or Two-Face … who are we left with that enough people would actually know?

    – Penguin?
    – Riddler?
    – Clayface?
    – Mad Hatter?
    – Deadshot?
    – Hugo Strange?

And even the last few of those are stretches for recognition purposes. Am I forgetting anybody?

I think Nolan and Bale both have been fairly explicit that these Bat-flicks take place too early in Batman’s career for Robin to enter anytime soon. Barb Gordon was shown to be in diapers, and I think it was Alan Moore who established that she was but one year younger than Dick Grayson. As for villain speculations, Nolan has said before that whoever the third film showcases, he will NOT be touching Catwoman. I suspect he may end up leaning more towards characters who have not yet suffered big-screen incarnations.
Maybe by this time next year there will be an actual script, so speculations of any kind will have a place in reality.

    and I love this blog!

  12. Eric, well I didn’t see the second Fantastic Four movie but she’s listed as Captain somebody if that rings any bells.

And yeah, seeing how there’s no script or anything yet for Batman it’s still pure speculation on pretty much everything.

Randy, I hope to go they don’t go the Robin route. But as far as Catwoman it’s a good idea seeing as how she’s a normal villain type.

  13. Randy says:

Pardon me while I roll my eyes at yet ANOTHER speculation as to who will be in the next Batman movie. My wife read on one of her many entertainment blogs that Shia LeBouf or whatever his name is will be Robin in the next Batman movie.

Now Rachel Weisz would totally make a great Catwoman, but then I also thought that Phillip Seymour Hoffman would make a great Penguin when I read that a couple months back.

I think I’ll wait until Nolan actually says who the villain will be to get excited about it.

A Tron sequel would be extremely awesome with so much potential for great FX. The original broke ground in its day (although by today’s standards the FX are quaint and dated), I can only imagine what a Tron sequel would be like.

Regarding the actresses for the Tron movie, I don’t recognize either one, and I certainly don’t remember the one you identified as being in the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie. Not that I am complaining, I just don’t remember her. They’ve got to have Jeff Bridges in the sequel.

We’ll be bombarded with Batman rumors for some time, I am certain. Who knows what characters will even show up in a third Bats movie? Weisz is hot, mind you, and while her roles have been “popcorn” movie stuff, she might pull off a Catwoman effectively, but I’d choose someone else. I don’t know who, however. As long as Christian Bale is in the next Batman movie, I am happy.

  15. I think Christian Bale is ALWAYS sexy and Rachel Weisz is a hottie!
