Weekend Wrap-Up: Justice League, Beauty and the Beast, The Magicians & More

A few things you might be interested in dropped over the weekend and Monday morning. How about a quick wrap-up?

USA Today revealed a new image from Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie featuring Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Ezra Miller’s Flash, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman dramatically walking out of the Flying Fox. It…doesn’t do much for me.

In related DC universe news, the Television Critics Association press tour revealed renewals for all The CW DCTV shows – Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. According to IGN executive producer Greg Berlanti also confirmed the villain for the Supergirl/The Flash musical crossover will be Music Meister. He was of course pressed as to whether or not Neil Patrick Harris would reprise his animated role and replied, “We haven’t gone about casting yet. It’s the right question though!”

The Golden Globes gave us a new TV spot for the live-action Beauty and the Beast featuring Emma Watson singing “Belle Reprise.”

Sounds like some auto-tuning going on there which I hope doesn’t make it into the final cut of the film because it’s distracting.

I’ve watched screeners of the first four episodes of Syfy’s The Magicians and things are certainly getting kicked up a notch. Here’s a summary of Season 2 and a new TV spot:

Heading into Season 2, this group of unlikely heroes have been thrust into even more dangerous and unfamiliar territory, and must draw upon their novice skills to defeat a threat that could destroy the magical world itself. Driven by power, revenge and survival, they learn that those who entered the hauntingly beautiful world of Fillory will never be the same as those who leave. Magic is dying. With our characters transported to the magical kingdom of Fillory – and named Kings and Queens of the land to boot – can they save magic? Oh, and there’s still the Beast to deal with, don’t forget. Meanwhile, Julia is on a no-holds-barred revenge quest against the evil God that attacked her.

They also produced this fun spot about “adulting.”

The Magicians premieres January 25 at 9/8c and you can get caught up with Season 1 on Netflix!

And finally, a Baywatch international trailer was just released this morning. It’s not “red band” but there are curses if you’re in an environment where that would matter.

  1. […] Grossman’s book series of the same name, is headed into its second season on January 25th (check out the latest teasers) and Syfy reached out to let me know they wanted to send me a special package. I waited impatiently […]

  2. I’m still trying to figure out the Flash costume – is it covered in bungee cords? Do the cord-things represent elastic material between the armor plates? Is it just deep shadows that look like bungee cords?

The Justice League doesn’t look tough and “don’t mess with me,” they look unhappy and bored. Ray Fisher seems to be the only one doing a “Superhero” pose and Erza Miller looks like he’s wondering if he left his stove on, or is thinking about how he should get a Flash action figure and a Credence action figure so he can make them fight. Poor Jason Mamoa’s direction seems to have been “Give an expression like you want to bad-touch the camera.”

I like the JL photo overall, but Gal looks so bored in that picture, I have to wonder why it was used as a promo image.

    • Yeah, pretty lackluster overall. I can’t help but wonder if one where they were actually walking/further down the ramp would have been more visually interesting.
