The First Trailer For Fantastic Beasts Is Bringing Magic Back

We’ve finally got our first trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff, and it’s bringing magic back.

I may not be a fan of one particular story choice for this film (or the overly Caucasian cast) but I underestimated how much I missed the Harry Potter universe. Or should I say Rowling’s magical universe? And this is coming from someone who recently visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando.

While Lionsgate may be attempting to drain The Hunger Games franchise dry with talk of ridiculously thought-out prequel stories that the author hasn’t even written, Rowling has a bit more to pull from and is continuing to create. So who knows how many years we’ll be able to enjoy seeing her stories come to life?

But seriously, opening the trailer with that spell immediately brought me back into the world and I can’t wait to see more. Eddie Redmayne stars as lead character Newt Scamander along with Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Gemma Chan, Ezra Miller and Carmen Ejogo. In theaters November 2016!

The story itself doesn’t strike me as particularly interesting, but seeing more of the wizarding world outside of the UK should be interesting. I still say the way to do a Fantastic Beasts movie would be to make it a wizard’s version of a nature documentary (narrated by Luna Lovegood because OF COURSE!) with Harry, Ron, and Hermione MST3K-ing it up to recreate the feel of their notes in the original book.

Hey, I’m headed to Potterworld later this month! I’m really looking forward to it, I finally put together my Ravenclaw costume and everything. And from what I can the park is almost completely accessible, unlike a certain “happiest place on Earth” I could mention… ;)
