There is no Dana…only Alyssa Milano.
Sigourney Weaver will not be reprising her role as Dana Barrett in Atari’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game says Variety. Instead, Milano has been added to the cast. “I have so much respect for that character in the movie that I hope I do the position that she is in justice’,” she told them.
Don’t fret though, Milano will not be replacing Weaver as Dana, just as the leading lady in the game. “Milano said she spent one day in the studio voicing the character of Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn, the brainy guest curator of a ‘World of Gozer’ exhibit at the Natural History Museum,” said Variety.
No word as to why Weaver turned down the offer especially since she’s heavy into voiceover work these days. It’s unfortunate considering the rest of the original cast has already lent their voices to the project but I think Milano is a good choice. Who knows, maybe she’ll be cast in the “new” Ghostbusters film too.

That’s the executives over at the Sci Fi Channel (soon to be SyFy) freaking out over the networks loss of Battlestar Galactica this week. So, what’s next? Three fantasy miniseries are in the works. Two of which, says The Hollywood Reporter, will serve as potential series pilots.“The network has ordered a retelling of ‘Alice in Wonderland’; a fresh take on the comic-book hero ‘The Phantom’; and ‘Riverworld,’ from a series of fantasy books by Philip Jose Farmer. All the projects are four-hour movies from prolific production company RHI Entertainment,” reports THR. Phantom and Riverworld are the potential pilots and Alice will be written and directed by Nick Willing who’s responsible for the networks Tin Man miniseries.
I, for one, am an Alice In Wonderland freak and will watch just about any adaptation so I hope they make it a good one. I’m not familiar with the other two, what do you guys think?

Calling all cars. We’ve got a law suit over Dick.
Dick Tracy that is. From The Hollywood Reporter,”In a Delaware court filing on Thursday, Tribune Media Services, a unit of bankrupt newspaper publisher Tribune Co., said [Warren] Beatty ‘wrongly claims’ to have exclusive motion picture and television rights to the well-known police detective character.”Beatty did own the rights after he purchased them in 1985, subsequently starring in the 1990 film of the iconic man in yellow, but Tribune claims the rights revert back to them because he’s “made no productive use” out of them in over a decade.
The legal battle has been ongoing since 2006 but Beatty slowed things down even more when in November he claimed to be working on a Dick Tracy television special. “Tribune, in its suit, said that the TV special being produced solely for the purpose of preserving Beatty’s rights would not benefit either party, and that it does not believe Beatty has begun shooting the special in the manner that would be required under their agreement,” wrote THR.

@zodak, yeah it was a successful movie. I’m actually surprised they haven’t tried to make another one already with a younger cast considering the trend of movies these days.
@geekboy, that should be a rule for ANY show. :)
I’m a big Alice in Wonderland fan as well, so I’d definitely watch a show if they came up with one. I only hope that whatever they do, they take the time to think out the “long arc” for the series — not just the miniseries — right from the start.
I know many people loved the BSG finale, but Ron Moore himself admitted that he basically didn’t have the long story or the ending figured out even two years into the show, and I think that’s why the finale was so controversial, because some — like me — felt enough hadn’t been done to prepare us for it.
So if somebody’s going to screw around with a favorite story of mine like Alice, I’d just like them to do it carefully. Actually, that should be a rule for anybody tackling any sci-fi show at this point: Put some though into it ahead of time, and don’t assume you can just wing it after the show gets picked up.
They made a TV movie about Riverworld, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310952/ , wich could have been a lot worse, but wich wasn’t great either, considering there are 5 books in the series.
They could do something better with a TV series, but they will have to be very carefull adapting the original and cut just a little, not whole chapters.
Also the problem with this potential series is the same problem as with the movie Watchmen, it will rely on the fans to manage to survive.
i don’t understand the whole ghostbusters resurgence. syfail is really annoying lately. yeah, the phantom might work as a tv show but they will have to be insanely politically correct in order to survive 1 season. too bad about dick tracy, wasn’t it a successful movie?
Well, the Phantom is a white guy in a purple suit running around African jungles. I’m thinking maybe it won’t sell well, since it hasn’t any other time they took it to TV or the movies.
